About

A small firm, on purpose.

Scribed exists because the software market stopped serving the people who keep the country running. We're here to fix that — one business at a time.

The story

Why we started.

For fifteen years I sat in conference rooms watching owners get talked down to by software vendors.

The vendor would arrive with a deck, a demo, and a smile. The owner — who had built the business, knew every customer's name, and could quote margins from memory — would be told that the way they ran their company was "non-standard." That they needed to adapt to "best practices." That a process they'd spent twenty years refining would have to be flattened to fit the software.

The owner would sign, because what else were they going to do? Six months later, half the team was working around the new system. A year later, someone in accounting had built a spreadsheet to fix what the software couldn't.

I kept thinking: the software is the problem, not the business. So we started Scribed to do it the other way around — to build the software to fit the business, not the business to fit the software.

What we believe

Six principles.

We try to write these down because it's the easiest way to tell whether we're a fit for you — and you for us.

01

Your business is not the lowest common denominator.

The thing that makes you different from your competition is usually the thing the off-the-shelf software can't handle. We treat that as a feature, not a problem.

02

Plain English beats jargon.

If we can't explain a decision in two sentences without acronyms, we don't understand it well enough to make it on your behalf.

03

Software should subtract, not add.

The right software takes things off your plate. If the project ends with more logins, more tabs, and more meetings, we failed.

04

You own what we build.

Code, data, documentation — yours, from day one. No subscription you can't cancel, no platform you can't leave.

05

Smaller and faster, by design.

We stay deliberately small. It keeps the people who sold you the work as the people doing the work, and it keeps us honest about what we take on.

06

Some problems aren't software problems.

Sometimes the answer is a better checklist, a different hire, or a single conversation. We'll tell you that — even when it costs us the engagement.

How we charge

No hourly games.

Everything is fixed-fee, quoted up front, written down. You see the price before any work begins. If the scope changes mid-project, we tell you what that costs before we do it — not after.

If you want to cancel an ongoing support arrangement, you cancel. No notice period. No off-boarding fee. We'd rather lose the work than keep a client who doesn't want to be one.
